Itinerary
on this page
Day 1: Cusco - Chillca
Around 8:30 AM: We will collect you from your hotel and leave for a town called Checacupe, located 100 km from Cusco. Here we will visit the Colonial Temple of the Immaculate and afterwards, we will start ascending the Pitumarca Valley towards the community Chillca, where the people will welcome us.
Starting here, it is just a short and easy walk to the first lodge (45 minutes). While at the lodge there will be a music show organized by the community of Chillca and time to rest and prepare for the next day.
Day 2: Chillca - Machuracay
At 8:30 AM: After a nutritious breakfast, we'll start our hike. Straight from the start, we can appreciate majestic views over the valley with glaciers in the background. While walking towards the waterfalls and descending from the Santa Catalina Mountain, we will see lots of llamas and alpacas all over the countryside. By the end of this afternoon, we will reach our second lodge, Machuracay Tambo, located at the bottom of Apu Ausangate.
Day 3: Machurcay -Anantapata
This day will start with a tough descent at 5,200 masl into the Ausangatecocha. On the way down, we will get some excellent views over the south face of the Ausangate Mountain while walking towards red sandstone formations, locally also known as "Nevado del Inca".
This night we will stay overnight in Anantapata Tambo, our third lodge.
Day 4: Anantapata - Huampococha
This day we will be crossing one of the most spectacular parts of these mountains. Slopes colored in so many different and rare colors. I am pretty sure you never saw something like this before! If we are lucky, we might see some vicunas in this isolated area as well.
This night we will spend at the Huampococha Lodge near a lagoon.
Day 5: Huampococha - Cusco
This day will consist of one more climb and then descent until we see the first crops and houses again. When we reach the bottom of the valley, our bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco.
