Cusco Accommodation Casa San Blas Sustainability

Carlos Milla and Jose Guzman

Jose Guzman is originally from Peru's capital of Lima and Carlos Milla was born and bred right here in Cusco! They both love being located in the middle of the artisan district of Cusco and have attempted in many ways to saturate their accommodation on the inside with an equal amount of art and culture as surrounds them. They saw great potential in the 18th century adobe house that they preceded to convert into a charming hotel, while holding on to the history in its architecture. They have displayed the art of local craftsmen throughout their lodgings in an attempt to promote the Peruvian culture they are so proud of.
These two are a great resource to find out more about the history and culture of Cusco and they love sharing their passion and knowledge with travellers.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

The people from Casa San Blas are extremely proud of the Peruvian culture and people and intend to use their accommodation as an instrument for the education of our guests about the history and customs of Peru.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

An 18th century adobe house in the heart of the historic artisan quarter of San Blas was renovated to become what is today the Casa San Blas. This restoration has been a painstaking process to recover elements from the original design, incorporate other aspects found on site and develop a unique style for the accommodation. This has been accomplished by using colonial building methods and giving respect to the original proportions and roof layout. We have blended the remains of Inca stonework and architecture with European motifs to preserve a piece of Cusco's history.

The building process utilized fine local woods from certified forests and contracted out the ironwork of local artisans to give it an even more Peruvian touch.

The hotel is also dedicated to the preservation of the unique textile tradition found in Peru's culture. These techniques have been handed down through the generations of Andean people and our rooms showcase this beautiful artwork as a means to provide our guests with an insight into the culture of the Andes.
