Classic Cusco City Tour (shared service)
We start the tour with a visit of the Cathedral of Santo Domingo in the Plaza de Armas, which is a true masterpiece of gothic-renaissance architecture. It took nearly 100 years to complete its construction. The Cathedral was built on top of the foundations of Kiswarkanchar, the Inca palace of Viracocha.
Koricancha, also spelled Qoricancha or Qorickancha (Temple of the Sun), is our next visit and an excellent example of Spanish colonial architecture built on top of perfectly Inca foundations.
Inside Koricancha we can find some of the best examples of the Inca engineering skills. The trapezoidal doorways are earthquake proof and built without usage of mortar, all stones perfectly fitting together.
Just outside Cusco is the impressive fortress Sacsayhuaman. The fortress was built with limestone blocks, some of which are estimated to weight over 200 tons. As of today, there are only theories on how the Incas were able to construct Sacsayhuaman with such precision that a sheet of paper will not fit between 2 stones.
We finish the tour with a short visit of the archaeological sites of Qenko, Pukapukara, and Tambomachay.
