Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 

The manager, Tito Lozano, of the Jose Antonio Hotel in Cusco is an open-minded person who is willing to accept new ideas and ready to invest in a more sustainable tourism. However, the location doesn't always allow this according to Mr. Lozano. Until now it's impossible for any hotel in Cusco to get any official and acknowledged certification for renovating, promoting or implementation of any projects which will improve the hotels caring for destination level.

A positive aspect for this hotel is the attention they give to their staff. Every staff member gets the opportunity to grow internally to higher positions and is paid well. Several times a year the hotel organizes family trips for the workers and their families. The main reason for these trips is because the hotel knows many of their employees spend more time in the hotel than with their family and this is their way of showing their appreciation to their employees and their families. Besides these benefits, the hotel offers to all its employees the free use of a clinic in case of emergencies.

The hotel's waste is all separated and collected by a recycle company. For 2010 they are trying to minimize the use of chemical products.
